MEET THE STAFF
Founding Pastor and Georgia native, Bryan James, is a graduate of Pentacostal Theological Seminary where he earned a Master’s Degree in Church Leadership with an emphasis on Missions. He and his wife Elaine moved to California in 2005 to launch Monterey Church. In 2012, Pastor Bryan led Monterey Church through a season of reformation into a more missional model, which included overseeing a new church plant in Northern Virginia (where he currently resides) and establishing a robust partnership with Compassion International to release children from poverty in the name of Jesus. Pastor Bryan and Elaine have four children: Rachel, Sarah, Julia and Samuel. Bryan enjoys running, books, and anything and everything related to FSU football.
Leland obtained his undergraduate degree from UC Davis, and his law degree from the University of San Diego. While practicing as an attorney, Leland felt called to serve at Monterey Church. His focus is on discipleship and leadership development, missions and the business operations of the Monterey Church campuses. Leland and his wife Veronica are proud parents of twins (Jonah and Ava). In his free time, Leland enjoys anything outdoors, reading and live music.
Mike grew up in Northern Virginia. He graduated with a B.S degree in Communication Studies from James Madison University. He met Hannah early in college, and they got married in May, 2010. Mike has been serving in ministry for 17 years. His passion is to serve and lead people closer to their full potential in Christ through the power of the local church. He’s actively involved in all things music, media, student/college/young adult ministry, missions, preaching, teaching, and outreach. He loves early morning quiet times, adventures with Hannah, motorcycles, wood working, coffee dates with friends, campfires, burritos, Chick-fil-A, and riddles.
Hannah was born and raised in Northern Virginia, where she lived until moving to Monterey California in 2015. She graduated from James Madison University with a B.S. degree in Communication Studies. Hannah and her husband Mike began serving in ministry together in 2010. She is passionate about seeing people fall in love with Jesus and get connected to the power and hope found through the church. She helps with kids/youth/college/young adult ministry, leading the First Impressions Team, hospitality, and all things administrative. Hannah loves going on adventures, donuts and coffee, mission trips, event planning, and being a mom to their little dog Maddy.
Jedi grew up with a passion for music. At the age of 17, he felt a strong calling to use his gifts for God. He joined Monterey Church in August 2010 as Worship Leader, and in February 2013, he answered God’s call to become the Worship Pastor for Monterey Church. Jedi has a heart to see everyone fall in love with Christ and follow Him at the expense of everything else. He graduated from Monterey Peninsula College with a degree in Psychology. Jedi and his wife Kaitlyn are enjoying their life in Monterey. He enjoys surfing, disc golf, and writing music.
Ro is a graduate of Bethany Bible College, and also spent 20 years serving in the military. He has immense experience as a pastor, leader, and elder in the church, and is currently serving as a Chaplain at our community hospital, and leading our senior care and prison ministry. He and his wife Diane are among some of the founding members of Monterey Church. Ro loves to golf and hand out “high-fives”.
Lorena was born and raised in Monterey County. She is a preschool teacher’s assistant at Highland Elementary. She enjoys volunteering and hospitality. She loves worship nights and loves to see young adults growning in their relationship with Christ. In her spare time she enjoys going to the beach, baking sugar cookies, and going on adventures.
Dan grew up in Northern Virginia. He graduated with a B.S. degree in Business Marketing at James Madison University. After serving at our Virginia campus for a few years, he felt a calling to move to California to become the full time youth director. He loves hanging out and sharing Jesus with middle and high school students and helping them discover their purpose God created them for. Dan enjoys traveling and has a goal to one day visit all seven continents -he has three to go. He likes to stay active and enjoys being outdoors, hiking, fishing, camping and going on adventures.
